I turn 24 on August 9th... that makes me a leo, ya know. I don't know if I am a "hippie" but plenty of people call me that, and plenty of people I call friends are called "hippies" by some... so I don't know. I think everyone has a different definition of what a "hippie" is, so maybe we shouldn't get into that. I am a total nature boy. I just love being outside, in the woods, or in a field of wildflowers. I could spend the rest of my life just sitting in a field. I wish my every day could be spent barefoot, and shirtless in the hot summer sun. I am in love with the seasons, but I am pretty short with winter, cause it's pretty tough to go barefoot in Ohio with some of the snows we have. I think I am pretty typical though in other respects. My hobbies are pretty similar to most of the others who have written hippyland. I play acoustic guitar, write poetry, camp, hike, and collect Volkswagens : ) I have a wonderful collection of stringed instruments. I started playing bass about 10 years ago, and have played with several bands of varied sucess. Most all the music I write falls somewhere between Folk and Alternative... I am heavily influenced by blues and jazz. My collection of guitars includes a Gibson 6 String acoustic that my dad bought in the late 60's, as well as an Ovation 12 string acoustic/electric guitar. I've got more guitars than I can play with my hands and feet. I'm a nut when it comes to photography. It is totally my passion. I have a darkroom in my basement, a sweet camera, scanners, digital cameras, but the one thing I lack is time. Sucks don't it. I'd better shut up now. I've tried to take the past and learn from it, even if it's from the experience of other people, sometimes, like all the truly wonderful and talented people that we've lost to drug related tragedies (Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin, Brian Jones, Kieth Moon, John Bonham, Jerry Garcia, ect.) and even people who we've almost lost like David Crosby. to all of you looking back to the 60's for guidance, please look back and LEARN from their accomplishments AND thier mistakes...that's what they would all want us to do, right? that means that any drugs that you do, know exactly what it is you're doing, because anything can (and does)happen; and just like so many people have said, like Joni Mitchell, free love was a fun experiment, but it failed. Go to a record store and buy a cd that u've never heard before and take it home and listen to it. maybe youll get turned on the different bands? who knows. Do whatever artistic thing u can even if it sux. its all beautiful if it came from the mind. Swim in a lake and don't worry about getting dirty. Eat donuts. Eat. Sleep well, but don't oversleep. Drink Kool-Aid (preferably cherry). Watch Alice in Wonderland at least once while intoxicated. Watch Mr. rogers if theres nothing else on t.v. If youre bored take a pencil and paper (napkin, whatever) and just write or draw whatever the hell comes to your head. U can even throw it away when you're done but i wouldn't recommend it. Recently, I got suspended from my school for possession of alcohol. I was drinking before school, and during first period. By the middle of the day, I was sooo drunk. I guess people knew what was going on.I had to go down to the office, and they thought I was stoned. So then, they searched my backpack for drugs. They didn't find any, because I didn't have any. Still,I felt viloated. They even read my notes from my friends and stuff like that. I thought I was home free, but I happened to be barefoot. They forced me to go to my locker and put my shoes on, and when we got there, they found the drink. It was a mix of fruit juice and vodka. I was suspended for 5 days. Want to know why I got drunk at school? Alcohol makes you I guess, more soulful, you know? You're not really scared to say what's on your mind, you just do it. I thought that it would help me see people for who they really are, and I wanted people to see the real me. It was really, a very fun day for me;until I got busted! Oh well. Living in the nineties and trying to be hippy is not the easiest thing at all... I'm about 19 years old and my biggest regret is not having lived that miracle named "sixties" - not in this lifetime at least... My favourite music and artists are those made in that colorful decade and i unfortunately rarely feel expressed by any of today's musicians... I love peace, sunshine, rain, love, music, art, life. My opinion is that everything on this earth is subjective and that's what makes life what it is - people who reject subjectiveness often impose rules, "must's" and "mustnt's", "ethical" and "non-ethical" things - not my type anyway. I go to a private school where people are very close-minded and assume that because of the music i listen to (GD, Rusted Root, PHiSH, etc.) and because of the way i dress that i am a hippy. It's very hard for them to understand that i am not a hippy by those reasons, but i am one by the way that i think and feel.
