Junco Partners
Junco Partners formed in 1964 as part of the Robert Stigwood Agency. The Mod group took over from the Animals at ‘Club A’ Gogo’ and ‘Downbeat Club’ but first gained notoriety backing Howling Wolf and Freddie King on their UK tour. In tow with the tour (1965) Junco put out a cover of Jerry Ragavoy’s “As Long As I Have You” backed by Leadbelly’s” Take This Hammer”.
Founder members included Ronnie Barker and JP Anderson who departed while remaining guitarist Charlie Harcourt recruited Skip Bifferty organist Bob Sargeant, drummer John Woods & bassist David Sproat, celebrated by an excellent album that soared through the Keef Hartley styled “Fly Me High” and high riffing “Minotaur”. The album was really a mix of Prog and blues styled rock well phased on the Spooky Tooth styled “Louise” and eerie “Death By Fire”. After the album Harcourt joined Jackson Heights, Cat Mother, All Night Newsboys and Lindisfarne. Woods went on to play with Jody Grind and Vinegar Joe while Bob Sargeant joined The Mick Abrahams Band.
In 1978 Junco reformed with Barker, Anderson also featuring Sproat, Kenny Barker (Gtr) & Neil Perry Sax for the 1978 ‘Newcastle Festival’. A live reunion album Almost Live – Full Steam R&B appeared in 1996.
